Heat Rate & PLF Calculator

Heat Rate, also known as Plant Heat Rate or Station Heat Rate, is the amount of heat energy required to generate one unit (1 kWh) of electricity in a thermal power plant. It is usually expressed in kcal/kWh. A lower heat rate indicates better plant efficiency and lower coal consumption.

Plant Load Factor (PLF) shows how much of the plant’s installed capacity is being utilized. It is expressed as a percentage. A higher PLF indicates better utilization of the generating capacity.

The calculator below helps you quickly calculate:

  • Heat Rate (kcal/kWh)
  • Plant Efficiency (%)
  • Plant Load Factor (PLF %)
